A Place to Call Home. A Path to a New Future.

Across the United States, more than 770,000 people will experience homelessness on any given night. Veterans will account for nearly 33,000 of that total. Among them, women veterans will continue to be the fastest-growing group; they are four times more likely to experience displacement than male veterans or other U.S. adults. The crisis will not end on its own.

At SRTKA (Start. Rising. Through. Keen. Alliances.), we believe a house will only be the beginning. That is why we will build a community of up to 250 fully furnished tiny homes, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units, designed for women veterans and their children. Paired with wraparound services such as mental health care, childcare, job training, medical support, and more, SRTKA will provide more than shelter.

Here, every woman veteran will find safety, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to heal, rebuild, and thrive.

The Challenge: Honoring the Women Who Served

Despite national efforts to reduce Veteran displacement, over 33,000 Veterans remain unhoused across the United States, with a disproportionate concentration in the South. In Alabama alone, more than 450 Veterans experience displacement on any given night–a figure that is likely undercounted due to rural housing instability and reporting gaps.

Among this population, women Veterans make up approximately 9% of those experiencing displacement. Many face compounded challenges, including military sexual trauma, single parenthood, limited access to women-specific services, and a lack of supportive housing environments that recognize their unique needs. This is not just a statistic; it is a critical national challenge that demands a targeted solution.

In both rural counties and underserved urban neighborhoods across Alabama, the availability of transitional and permanent housing remains severely limited. Traditional solutions, such as emergency shelters or institutional-style transitional programs, often fail to provide the privacy, safety, and accommodations necessary for long-term stability and recovery, particularly for women with children. At SRTKA, we will not only offer shelter; we will also rebuild lives, dignity, and self-sufficiency for those who served our nation.

How can this trend of women veterans displacement be impacted or reversed positively?

  1. Housing First: We do not wait for our women veterans to be ‘ready’; at SRTKA, we will house them first, then support them. We cannot fix mental health or joblessness if they are sleeping in a car.

  2. Wraparound Support: At SRTKA, we will offer a comprehensive range of services, including therapy, case management, childcare, and education–all integrated and not provided in isolation.

  3. Dignity & Community: At SRTKA, we will help them feel human again, not like broken charity cases. We will build safe spaces that foster dignity, peer support, and community.

Our Model

SRTKA (Start. Rising. Through. Keen. Alliances.) Enterprise Foundation Inc. is a women veterans-founded private nonprofit dedicated to ending women veterans displacement and empowering women to rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and stability. We serve as the central ‘parent’ organization, spearheading the mission to end women veterans displacement. We operate through two vital subsidiaries: SRTKA Enterprise Services, LLC – Life Services Division and SRTKA Enterprise, LLC – Housing Division.

Land & Facilities

SRTKA owns 18 acres of undeveloped land in Piedmont, Etowah County, Alabama, and are responsible for the overall management of the Foundation’s operations, strategic direction, and financial well-being.

Four of these acres are dedicated to the SRTKA Enterprise Services, LLC – Life Services Division. This section will house our Headquarters and various facilities, specifically designed to deliver and coordinate comprehensive support services for the displaced women veterans residing in SUNAGO Village.

The remaining 14 acres are allocated to the SRTKA Enterprise, LLC – Housing Division. This division is dedicated to providing safe, stable housing units for displaced women veterans, including those with families, establishing a crucial foundation for their journey to long-term independence.

Together, these divisions reflect the holistic vision of SRTKA Enterprise Foundation Inc.: to provide not only a place to live, but a place to heal, grow, and thrive. Our integrated structure ensures a holistic approach, encompassing both secure housing and essential life services.

Key Differentiator

Unlike traditional shelters or transitional housing programs, we will offer a comprehensive continuum of care–from safe and stable housing to a wide range of life services, all within a supportive community setting (SUNAGO Village).

SRTKA (Start. Rising. Through. Keen. Alliances.) Differentiators:

  • A one-stop shop for all the essential services displaced women veterans need to rebuild their lives.

  • Exclusively focuses on the unique needs of displaced women veterans, a historically overlooked demographic

  • Operates within a holistic care model integrating mind, body, and community reintegration

  • Built on a network of keen alliances to provide layered, sustainable support

  • Peer-led components that ensure veteran voices and lived experience are embedded in every service model

  • Trauma-informed care framework integrated into all service areas

The current landscape of support services in rural Alabama is often fragmented, requiring veterans to travel significant distances or navigate multiple, disconnected agencies. This piecemeal approach is ineffective for individuals facing complex, interconnected challenges. A holistic, integrated, and locally accessible model like SRTKA’s is critically needed to reverse this devastating trend and provide the stability necessary for true reintegration for our women veterans in Piedmont, surrounding rural communities, the state of Alabama, and extended states.

Our Holistic Solution: A Foundation for a New Life

SRTKA will answer this crisis through two pillars:

  1. Safe, stable housing with up to 250 tiny homes (1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units).

  2. Comprehensive wraparound services tailored to the needs of women veterans and their families.

Each SRTKA is a mission-driven organization dedicated to empowering displaced women veterans as they transition from crisis to self-sufficiency. Each home will be more than a roof overhead; it will be a foundation for dignity, stability, and independence. Through holistic, person-centered care and strong community alliances, we will strive to eliminate barriers to housing, health, and purpose. Our vision is a world where no woman who has served our Armed Forces is left behind; where each woman veteran is empowered to rise, reconnect, and thrive as a valued member of society.
